Students use AI to find possible cave entrances on Moon

BBC News

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been used to find two previously undiscovered possible cave entrances on the Moon, which could support human survival on future space missions. Daniel Le Corre, a PhD researcher at the University of Kent, surveyed less than 0.3% of the lunar surface before finding the two pits. The South Marius Hills Pit, which the university said was previously overlooked by researchers, is in an area thought to be rich in lava tubes, while the Bel'kovich A Pit is close to the Moon's north pole and more likely to be a source of water. The pits were detected using an AI model that was trained to scan publicly available Nasa images and identify pits based on their distinctive shape. The AI model is named Essa, which is short for entrances to sub-surface areas and a nod to the Cornish name of Mr Le Corre's hometown, Saltash.

Full Moon October 2025: When To See The 'Harvest Supermoon' Rise

Forbes Europe

The harvest moon is the ninth of 12 full moons in 2025. A solar year is 365.24 days, while a lunar year is around 354.37 days, so sometimes there are 13 full moons in one calendar (solar) year -- as in 2023 and next in 2028. Of the 12 full moons in 2025, three will be "supermoons" -- of which the harvest moon is the first -- with two "blood moon" total lunar eclipses (the first happened on March 13-14 and the second on Sept. 7-8). The next full moon will be the beaver moon, the year's biggest "supermoon" (and the biggest since 2019), on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025.

Pushing Buttons: the voice actors speaking out against NDAs, code names and poor pay

The Guardian

I have spent a few weeks talking to video-game voice actors, the real humans who bring verve and humour to our gaming experiences. Some of them have won major awards for their work. None of them have had a meaningful pay rise in over 10 years, despite the industry's exponential growth. They are furious – and they have every right to be. Over the weekend, Hellena Taylor, who played the lead character in Bayonetta, Platinum Games' stylish action series about a hypersexualised angel-killing witch who fights with extreme flair, went public with her frustrations.

Pushing Buttons: from the Witcher to Uncharted, these are the best (and worst) games about love

The Guardian

Welcome to Pushing Buttons, the Guardian's gaming newsletter. If you'd like to receive it in your inbox every week, just pop your email in below – and check your inbox (and spam) for the confirmation email. Welcome back to Pushing Buttons! In the spirit of carrying my perennial real-world lateness over into this newsletter, let's talk about love, even though it is now 15 February and everyone will instantly forget about romance again until this time next year. As 500 different articles will already have reminded you this week, so much of the art that we humans make is about wanting someone you can't have, having someone you don't want, missing someone you once had, or sometimes even how much we like person/people we're actually with.

Harvest Moon: One World review – a farming game that's gone to seed

The Guardian

Before Farmville, before Stardew Valley, there was Harvest Moon – a Japanese farming game dating to 1996, when tending virtual crops and cows was new to video games. Created by Yasuhiro Wada, who wanted to convey the goodness of rural life, Harvest Moon has for most of this time been a straightforward escape-to-the-country fantasy about building up an abandoned farmstead and making a life in a nearby village. As vegetables grew, animals matured and friendships developed, you'd get sucked into the game's predictable seasonal rhythms and gentle busywork. Since 2014, however, Harvest Moon has been in the hands of new developers, and let's just say that changes have been made. In One World, you do not move to a dilapidated farm; you pack up and explore a small continent of boring branching pathways that take a long time to walk down, and the occasional desert village or fishing town.
